If you love recycling wood, a construction site or even discarded wood from around town can be a treasure trove for DIY projects. Inspired by the family game Jenga, I created a unique stool that I’m calling the Jenga Bench.
Not only is it functional, but it’s also a fun way to bring a playful design into your home using reclaimed materials.
Why I Made This Jenga Bench
I wanted a simple, stylish stool for my kitchen, and using different pieces of recycled wood seemed like the perfect approach. By keeping the design minimalistic, I could highlight the natural beauty of the wood while creating a sturdy, functional piece.

Materials and Tools Needed
Reclaimed wooden planks
For this project, I used small wooden slats measuring just over 35 cm long and 9 cm wide. In total, you’ll need 22 slats to complete the stool.
Step-by-Step Construction
1 - Prepare the Wood: Start by cutting all your reclaimed planks into the right size using a miter saw. Because this stool only uses small pieces, it’s perfect for salvaged wood.
2 - Clean and Sand: Each slat is then cleaned and smoothed at the table saw using a taper sled. I used a sanding machine to make sure every surface was flat, which also helps achieve clean, precise cuts.
3 - Build the Stool: Following the Jenga game pattern, stack one piece after the other to create the base. Continue layer by layer until the bottom section is complete. For the top, simply place four slats side by side. If your cuts are accurate, they’ll form a perfect square.
4 - Finish: I left the wood natural to maintain its original character. This finish works beautifully for indoor reclaimed wood projects, as it preserves the natural color without darkening over time.
Final Thoughts
This DIY Jenga Bench is a great way to reuse reclaimed wood, bring a playful touch to your home, and create a functional piece of furniture. With just a few tools and a bit of patience, you can transform scrap wood into something stylish and practical.
