With more than 300 species of birds that live or visit the shores in Florida, people from all over the world come to explore the sites along the shoreline, back bays and forests. Florida has been named the top bird-watching destination in United States. You can spot egrets, wood storks, ibis and herons of every description and color, as well as birds of prey such as red-shouldered hawks, bald eagles and osprey.

There is a Florida birding trail program which identifies interesting sites for bird-watchers. The Great Florida Birding Trail brings 116 sites across South Florida into the 2,000 mile highway trail designed to conserve and enhance bird habitat. It promotes bird-watching activities and conservation education.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary has been elected premium site because of its extensive services for visitors. It has a 2.25-mile boardwalk, Blair Audubon Center and a variety of educational activities. It offers more than 200 species of birds, including the largest nesting colony of endangered wood storks. This area encompasses more than 13,000 acres of natural habitats, and is definitely worth visiting.
