8 Things To Consider When Buying Travel Insurance

The majority of people go on holiday, have a memorable time and come back without any ill consequences. However, a small percentage of people will have an unexpected injury, a visit to a hospital or have their flights canceled. In those instances trying to get help without travel insurance is stressful and very expensive.

Travel insurance is an essential part of each travel and’ getting the right travel insurance can be confusing and frustrating. Here are the 8 things to consider when buying travel insurance.

  1. First of all do not leave purchasing travel insurance until the last minute. One of the key aspects of travel insurance is the cancellation cover. Although you may think that there’s no way you’ll cancel, life is full of the unexpected and family emergencies happen everyday. So it’s a nice benefit to have just in case and for a peace of mind.

  2. Don’t settle for single trip cover if you’re going on holiday more than once. According to statistics two thirds of people plan to take two or more holidays a year. If you’re in the majority it’s worth considering multi-trip or annual travel insurance.

  3. When you purchase insurance, be honest about any medical conditions you have, as not providing details could later invalidate any claims you need to make.

  4. Get the right policy for your holiday. There are different policies for different people. Track down a policy for specific activities you plan to take when on holiday to ensure you’re covered in the event of an accident.

  5. Know exactly what you’re covered against. Cheap travel insurance may seem like a bargain, but make sure you go through the policy in all the small details to ensure you’re not missing out on key coverage, such as cancellation and theft. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. So pay attention.

  6. Check out the excesses on the policy. They can make a huge difference, and it’s a good idea to find a policy with a lower or no excess on an area you think you are more likely to end up claiming on!

  7. No travel insurance company will pay up on any accidents occurring while the policyholder is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Never forget that.

  8. Insurance against acts of terrorism is something more and more people are asking for but most companies do not offer it as default with their policies. If it is something that’s worrying you, it is worth ensuring it is part of your policy.
