10 Habits Possibly Resulting in Obesity


Everyone knows the rule - No physical activity and fast food lead to obesity - which is largely circumstantial. These two are true, however there are at least 10 other factors resulting in obesity.

  1. The less you sleep the more weight you gain because when you sleep you burn calories.

  2. Pollutants affect our hormones and hormones control our body weight.

  3. You burn more calories if the environment is too cold or too hot, so air conditioning is one of factors affecting your body weight.

  4. Cigarettes are another factor because when you smoke you burn calories so smoking affects body weight.

  5. Antibiotics can cause weight gain. For example contraceptives, steroids, diabetes drugs, antidepressants or drugs for blood pressure.


  1. Age. As you get older, your metabolism slows down and you are likely to gain weight faster. Also it is believed that the older the mother is when giving birth, the higher her child’s risk for obesity is.

  2. Ethnicity is another factor. Hispanic Americans tend to be more obese than European-Americans.

  3. Fertility. There is evidence that obese people are more fertile.

  4. Less consumption of dairy products.

  5. Depression

These are just 10 factors but there are many more. Can you think of some?
